GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The Green Bay Metro Fire Department is showcasing their rich history; which dates back to 1841. Fire department helmets, caps, alarm boxes, breathing apparatuses, and other equipment will be shown during a historic display this Saturday, December 3. Guides will be available present details about each item.
Green Bay Metro Fire Department Captain, David Siegel, even wrote a book called Forces of Change, which details significant historical periods in the department.
‘Through all these decades the department has developed change,” said Siegel. “Not because things were a good idea, but because fires went horribly wrong. So the department changed accordingly.”
Looking to the future, Siegel says that he hopes the next new fire station built in Green Bay will feature a museum-quality display.
You can learn more about the history of the department on December 3 at 3 p.m. at Fire Station 2 on University Avenue in Green Bay.
