GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The Green Bay Metro Fire Department has purchased a dozen e-Bikes for use by emergency medical personnel.
They’ll be used by EMS personnel at events where it can be difficult to get around.
“Packer games, marathons, 5k runs, concerts,” said Walesh. “All those community events where there are areas an ambulance can’t get to as easy.”
It will also allow EMTs to deploy in situations where there may be multiple calls in a small area.
“If we have an incident at, say, for example, the Cellcom Marathon, the closest team may be out helping another person, and a call comes in, we can get to the next one faster than a traditional bike,” said Walesh.
The e-Bikes are expected to be deployed sometime next week.
The department had an aging fleet of mountain bikes, but Walesh said they became nearly impossible to maintain.
