GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Brown County residents will have some new drop-off sites for Wisconsin’s fall Drug Take Back Day.
On Saturday, Oct. 29, Wisconsinites can safely dispose of expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs or over-the-counter medications at multiple locations around the state.
“Collections like these are effective in protecting ourselves, our families, and the community by preventing prescriptions or medications from ending up in the wrong hands to be abused, accidentally ingested, or stolen. If we can avoid a tragedy such as overdose or death through proper disposal, we’re doing our part to improve public safety,” said Chief Chris Davis, Green Bay Police Department.
In addition to the permanent drug disposal sites, there will be two temporary drop-off sites in Green Bay, open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 29:
HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center – Emergency Dept. Entrance, 1726 Shawano Avenue
N.E.W. Community Clinic, 622 Bodart Street
Accepted items include:
Capsules/Pills
Creams/Ointments
Inhalers
Non-Aerosol Sprays
Patches
Pet Medications
Vape Pens/E-Cigarette Devices (Batteries Must Be Removed)
Vials
All liquids must be in their original container and NO sharps will be accepted. Also, ALL identifying information must be crossed out on the containers.
Those dropping off medications should remain in their vehicle and a volunteer will come to collect.
During Wisconsin’s spring Drug Take Back Day, which was held April 30, 2022, health officials report that Wisconsinites safely disposed of 59,840 pounds of medications. In Green Bay, 1,118 pounds of that total was collected between two clinics and the permanent drop-box at the Green Bay Police Department.
If you have unwanted medications, you don’t have to wait for a Drug Take Back Day. There are more than 490 permanent drug disposal boxes throughout the state. To find a permanent drug disposal box near you, click here.
