APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The family of a man shot-and-killed by an Appleton police officer five years ago is still looking for justice.
A group of people gathered at Houdini Plaza in downtown Appleton to have a march and rally for Jimmie Sanders.
He was shot-and-killed by an Appleton police officer at Jack’s Apple Pub.
The officer was cleared of any criminal charges by the district attorney after an investigation.
Sanders’ family then filed a wrongful death lawsuit
The organizer of Saturday’s event tells FOX 11 she wants more accountability in police shooting cases.
“We just want to keep his memory alive,” said Melissa Clark. “Also the family is still going through legal battles right now. They just did get postponed another year. The court system keeps postponing the hearings, so we’re just trying to keep awareness of the case, because it’s still ongoing, and we just want justice to happen to the family because they do deserve it.”
About a dozen people gathered with signs, while family members also addressed the crowd.
