FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A chemical leak has been secured after ‘yellow fog’ came out of a building in Fond du Lac.
Just before noon Thursday, Fond du Lac Fire received an alert that employees were being evacuated from Milk Specialties, 325 Tompkins St.
The alert indicated a yellow fog was coming out of the building as a result of a chemical mixture.
All 90-100 employees made it out safely and there are no reports of injuries or illness.
Although the exact concentration and type of gas is not known, it’s believed to contain chlorine, firefighters say.
Area homes were evacuated from Ruggles Street to the north, Hickory Street to the west and Grove Street to the south.
Fond du Lac Fire chief Peter O’Leary says Technical Rescue Team members are going inside the facility to shut off values with the help of employees through diagrams and radio.
Just before 6:30 p.m., Fond du Lac Fire says the situation was mitigated and all residents were able to return to their homes.
According to the company’s website, Milk Specialties makes nutritional products for people and animals using milk byproducts.
