GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Downtown Green Bay’s Farmers Market on Broadway returned on Wednesday a year after pandemic concerns forced the event’s relocation to Leicht Park.
“I think that that hurt a little bit,” said On Broadway’s Allie Thut. “I think people are just really excited to be back to the norm.”
On Broadway Director Brian Johnson was pleased with the crowd–hundreds came out and the streets were packed with people for the first time in over a year.
“We knew people were excited and ready to return to some level of normalcy,” Johnson told WTAQ. “We still have protocols in place, but we’re so excited and thrilled to see people out here again.”
Vendor booths are spaced out to allow for more social distancing, and there are plenty of hand-sanitizing stations. Mask wearing is optional, but visitors are urged to follow CDC guidance.
For vendors like Mike Hastreiter of the Kavarna Cafe, it’s definitely something that requires re-adjustment.
“It feels weird being out here without a mask right now,” Hastreiter Wednesday. “Even though we’re fully vaccinated and we’re outdoors and everything. We’re trying to get used to it as we’re trying to gear up to open for dine-in as well.”
The Farmers Market runs every Wednesday night between 3 and 8pm until Labor Day, when hours reduce to 3 to 7pm.
