GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Trivia nights are a staple at Wisconsin bars. That also goes for bars in the greater Green Bay community.
At Sideline Sports and Social on Tony Canadeo Run, a group of bar patrons tried a different type of bar trivia. That’s because the bar trivia was the first official Jeopardy! Bar League game at a Green Bay bar.
The Jeopardy! Bar League is an official competition created by Jeopardy! producers and Sony Pictures Television. Individuals or teams of up to 6 players compete for 10 weeks in a regional Jeopardy! Bar League. The 8 highest weeks count toward the team’s final score and national ranking.
As for prizes, teams can randomly win a prize through a draw. The top team in each region wins a Jeopardy! virtual casting audition; The top team in the nation at the end of the 10 weeks wins a trip to meet Jeopardy! legend and current host Ken Jennings, a casting audition, and the chance to play in a special ‘Challenge the Champs’ event.
Of course, you can’t have Jeopardy! being played in Northeast Wisconsin without Jeopardy! champion and Lawrence University Philosophy Professor Ben Chan involved. Chan won 9 straight games on the regular show in 2023, winning more than $250,000. Since he won so much, Chan qualified to be on that season’s Tournament of Champions, where he ultimately placed 2nd. Chan showed his Northeast Wisconsin pride, making many Green Bay shoutouts during his time on the show.
Wednesday night, Chan took the same path as Jennings, going from contestant at the real show to hosting the quiz show’s bar league trivia game.
Sideline was thrilled to get Chan as their host.
“It’s awesome. I think it brings more awareness to the show,” said Sideline Sports and Social Co-Manager Jody Yaeso. “Interestingly, the game is– It’s not like the TV show where it’s all education, arts. It’s very pop culture questions, so having him and that, it’s a win-win,” she said.
Competitors can come anytime among the 10 weeks to be in the league. Since only 8 weeks are counted, those who opted to watch the Milwaukee Brewers in game 3 of the National League Championship Series the same night as this first week of the league could use this as one of their droppable weeks. Yaeso says another 10 week season is planned for spring 2027.
