(BIG TEN) – For the third straight week, eight Big Ten volleyball programs were among this week’s AVCA/TARAFLEX Top 25: #1 Nebraska, #6 Wisconsin, #9 Penn State, #11 Purdue, #14 Minnesota, #19 USC, #21 Indiana and #23 Oregon. Michigan State and UCLA received votes in the poll. It’s the highest ranking of the regular season for Oregon, Penn State and Purdue (preseason No. 9).

Nebraska (7-0), Michigan State (9-0) and Washington (7-0) remain undefeated through three weeks of non-conference action. Nine programs nationally boast an unblemished record and the Big Ten’s three undefeated teams are the most of any conference across Division I.

The Sanford Pentagon will host two Summit League and two Big Ten volleyball teams in the inaugural South Dakota Lottery College Volleyball Classic. South Dakota State, South Dakota, Minnesota and Washington will participate in the two-day, four-game event September 18-19. On Friday, South Dakota State will face Washington, followed by South Dakota vs. Minnesota. On Saturday, South Dakota will face Washington, followed by South Dakota State vs. Minnesota.

With more than 15,000 fans expected at Wednesday night’s match between #1 Nebraska and #20 Creighton at Pinnacle Bank Arena, the match is expected to set to be the largest indoor home crowd record in program history. The current indoor home record for Nebraska is 13,870 against UCLA at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in 2009.

Indiana concludes its non-conference slate against Coastal Carolina and NC State this weekend. A pair of wins for the Hoosiers would improve their record to 7-2, marking the fifth-straight season that the program heads into Big Ten play with at least seven wins.

Michigan State earned a 3-1 win over Oakland on Tuesday to remain undefeated through three weeks of play. The Spartans are 9-0 to start the season in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1975-76. Michigan State is receiving votes in this week’s AVCA Coaches Poll after the Spartans received votes in the preseason poll. Prior to then, Michigan State had not received votes in the national poll since 2018.

Maryland’s 7-1 record is its best through eight matches since 2021. The Terps have won six straight matches, their longest winning streak since an eight-match run in 2024 (Sept. 6-21). Maryland begins its final weekend of the non-conference slate at the ECU Tournament with matches against host East Carolina, Campbell and Old Dominion.

Oregon’s Sjakkie Donkers and Valentina Vaulet were named to the All-Tournament Team at the Snyder-Park Classic hosted by Arizona State.

Purdue was crowned the Paradise Invitational Champions, beating No. 8 SMU in straight sets on Sunday and topping Houston a day prior, also in straight sets. The win against SMU marked the 12th consecutive season that Purdue volleyball has defeated a top 10 opponent. Purdue has won 22 top 10 showdowns since 2015.
