(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men’s soccer team scored once in each half and posted its second straight shutout with a 2-0 victory over St. Thomas on Wednesday evening at Valley Fields. Marquette improved to 4-1-1 on the year with the win.
Junior Mads Konrad Horgoien opened the scoring in the 34th minute, converting a penalty kick after Tomiwa Adewumi was taken down inside the box. The goal was his fourth of the season and gave Marquette a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Golden Eagles doubled their advantage in the 74th minute when Joey Buchanan finished a service from Ryan Amond for his third goal of the season. Amond recorded his first assist of the year on the play.
Marquette finished with an 11-9 advantage in shots and placed five attempts on target. Buchanan led the squad with three shots, while Konrad Horgoien added three attempts and a goal.
Defensively, the Golden Eagles limited the Tommies to just one shot on goal. Goalkeeper Cameron Simpson made one save while securing Marquette’s second clean sheet of the season.
