GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Dion Richardson was sentenced Friday to 25 years in prison for killing a man in a drug-deal related murder in Green Bay. He’s the third suspect sentenced in the case.
Richardson, 20, was also placed on extended supervision for 15 years by Judge Samantha Wagner for the conviction of first-degree reckless homicide for the Aug. 7, 2024, death of Brandon Ramirez.
Four others were charged in the case:
- Elijah White was sentenced to 12 years in prison
- Darian Pinchart was sentenced to 15 years in prison
- Rosemary Williams has a status conference Oct. 5
- Nigel White will be sentenced Nov. 9
Before the sentence was issued, Richardson apologized.
“I regret the choices that I made and the pain those choices have caused to all who loved and cared for Brandon. I recognize that an apology cannot hear your grief, but I want to express my deepest condolences, truly from the heart. I do acknowledge the hurt that has been done,” he said.
Ramirez’s family and friends described the pain of their loss. The media were ordered not to identify the victims.
Richardson told police he made a deal to buy a half-pound of marijuana from Ramirez for $430.
“Dion told me everything happened so fast and the gun was on his head and he grabbed it. Dion said again he pointed the gun at him and told him to give me all that, give me that cash… Dion said once they got to Berner he pointed the gun right at him and the girl hopped over and started driving off while he was tussling over the gun. While tussling the gun went off, he hoped out the car, started rolling, hurt his leg and was limping when he went to Darian’s house,” a criminal complaint states.
However, the woman who was driving the vehicle provided a different version of the story. She said she was on Berner Street when another person entered the car.
“She heard the man behind her immediately say, ‘Don’t Move’ and observed a black gun raised between her and (Ramirez) who was seated in the front passenger seat. (The woman) heard a gunshot and said the noise deafened her right ear and caused her to panic, suddenly realized (Ramirez) was shot in the head,” the complaint states.
Ramirez died of a gunshot wound to the head, according to the autopsy cited in the complaint.
