(UW ATHLETICS) MILWAUKEE – The No. 16 Wisconsin Badgers earned a 2-0 road victory over Milwaukee on Thursday night at Engelmann Stadium.
How it Happened
Wisconsin controlled the attacking chances throughout the opening half, generating 11 shots. Anya Gulbrandsen created a pair of early opportunities, forcing Milwaukee goalkeeper Lauren Nidey into saves in the eighth and 22nd minutes. Izy Truab followed with an attempt on target in the 31st minute before Taylor Gordon forced another save in the 37th.
The pressure finally paid off in the 39th minute. Sascha Beasley served the ball to Gordon where she connected on a header to put Wisconsin ahead 1-0. The goal marked Gordon’s first of the season, while Beasley picked up her first career assist.
Just over four minutes later, the Badgers doubled their lead. Margaret Sisk collected a loose ball and blasted an attempt from distance into the back of the net. The unassisted goal was Sisk’s second goal in as many games.
Wisconsin carried the 2-0 advantage into halftime.
The Badgers’ defense took over from there. Milwaukee generated three shots in the second half, but Stover denied Emily Petring in the 65th minute and Ashlyn Skinner-Barrett in the 87th to preserve the clean sheet.
Wisconsin finished with a 14-6 advantage in shots and a 9-3 lead in shots on goal. Stover made three saves to record the shutout. This is her second shutout of the season and 21st of her career.
