MENASHA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A new Multi Agency Resource Center, or MARC, is open at the former UW-Oshkosh Fox Cities campus for anyone impacted by the Fox Valley tornado.
It’s the latest and most robust version of resource centers that have been moving around the areas that experienced damage.
“It’s an opportunity for people who have been impacted by the tornado and the storms to come as a one place where they can meet with many agencies and determine what their needs are and how agencies can assist them,” said Shannon Thies with Salvation Army Fox Cities.
The Salvation Army, American Red Cross, and LEAVEN are among the groups with booths.
Thies said as the city shifts towards long-term recovery, having a team to support you is crucial.
“What happens next as people are rebuilding and recovering from the damages, and what that will mean for them and how we as agencies can support people in their rebuilding,” she explained.
Outside of supplies and outreach, the Salvation Army says emotional outreach is key during such a traumatic period of time.
“We’re set up here today to help people walk through their emotions and the difficult things that they’ve experienced,” she said. “Provide a hug, provide care.”
Outreach work isn’t limited to the MARC. American Red Cross has teams out delivering emergency supplies to families cleaning up.
“It’s stuff like gloves, rakes, tarps, anything like that. Garbage bags,” said Jennifer Warren. “So we’ve been distributing that to folks. We are also going to be starting in the next few days immediate assistance to people that have been impacted.”
The center is open to everybody from 10 AM to 7 PM Friday and 10 AM to 4 PM Saturday.
