(WTAQ-WLUK) — Half a dozen candidates are currently vying to replace Andre Jacque in the Wisconsin Senate.
He is vacating his District 1 seat, announcing in late April he would not seek reelection after serving in the state Legislature for over 15 years.
On Thursday, a sixth hopeful threw their hat into the race. In a news release declaring her candidacy, Barb Bittner described herself as “a lifelong Wisconsin resident, business owner and proud dairy farm daughter.” She said she wants to “ensure our district continues to have a strong conservative leader in Madison that will be the voice for our families, businesses, farmers and our amazing way of life.”
According to Ballotpedia, the other five candidates are:
- Jacob Vandenplas of Sturgeon Bay (Republican)
- Nic Cravillion of New Franken (Republican)
- Kell “Kelly” Bales of Kimberly (Republican)
- Katie Baney of De Pere (Republican)
- Mark Becker of Luxemburg (Independent)
The Republican primary will be held Aug. 11 and determine which candidate will be the GOP nominee Jacque has represented the 1st Senate District since 2019. It includes all of Door and Kewaunee counties, nearly all of Calumet County and parts of Brown, Manitowoc and Outagamie counties.
