(ST. NORBERT COMMUNICATIONS) LA CROSSE – St. Norbert College junior Eden Maranell is in 13th place after the first day of the heptathlon at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship at UW-La Crosse Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Maranell totaled 2,830 points through the first four events of seven-event multi, which will finish on Friday. Maranell is just 85 points out of eighth place, while 3,094 points is currently the first-place mark.
Maranell opened the competition with 787 points with a time of 15.42 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles. She then earned 621 points with a clearance of 4 feet 11 inches in the high jump and added 573 points with a shot put distance of 34-11 3/4. Maranell closed strong with 849 points 200-meter dash, posting a time of 25.42 seconds.
The final three events – the long jump, javelin throw and 800-meter run – will start at 12:30 p.m. Friday.
