(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) – Marquette volleyball head coach Tom Mendoza announced the addition of transfer Lauren Young to the Golden Eagles. A native of Delaware, Ohio, Young comes to Milwaukee after previous collegiate stops at Jacksonville (2022-24) and UNC Wilmington (2025).
“We are thrilled to add a player of Lauren’s experience, athleticism, and ability to the team. Lauren’s competitiveness and drive for the team to be successful were evident quickly in the process and will fit in very well with our returning group” Mendoza said of Young.
A 5-foot-11 setter/opposite hitter, Young played in 69 sets across 22 matches at UNCW, averaging 1.33 kills per set and 2.20 assists per set and setting career-highs in kills (92) and assists (152) splitting time at both listed positions. In her career at both UNCW and Jacksonville, Young contributed in 43 career matches, averaging 0.92 kills per set and 2.14 assists per set, totaling 102 kills and 238 assists in her career.
A graduate of Olentangy Berlin High School, Young he served as a team captain during her senior season and was named Olentangy Berlin High School MVP in both 2020 and 2021. Her high school honors also include All-Olentangy Conference First Team recognition in 2020 and 2021 and Ohio Central District First Team honors in both seasons.
At the club level, Young competed for Mintonette Sports from 2014-22, serving as a team captain at the 2019 USA Volleyball High Performance Championship where her team earned a gold medal, and a third-place finish in the National Division at the 2021 USA Volleyball National Championships.
Young plans to major in data science at Marquette. She is the daughter of Nicole and Jeremy Young and has one sibling, Adelynne, who plays softball at Valparaiso
