(247NEWSSOURCE/LEARFIELD) – The Washington Nationals clinched their first sweep of the Brewers since 2011 with an 8-6 win at American Family Field in Milwaukee on Sunday.
Keibert Ruiz came off the bench to deliver a go-ahead, two-run single in the eighth inning for Washington.
PJ Poulin picked up the win in relief and Gus Varland secured his first save of the season.
The Nationals are now 7-and-8 this season.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said you have to give credit to the Nationals.
He said that it’s discouraging when things like this happen.
Brice Turang went three-for-four with two solo home runs in the Milwaukee setback.
Turang was asked if the team is forcing things.
He then talked about what it will take to turn things around.
Angel Zerpa surrendered four runs in two-thirds of an inning, getting the loss.
Brandon Woodruff who started and went 6 innings said that the Brewers will get things fixed.
The Brewers have lost their last five games to drop to 8-and-7 on the year.
Ouch: Christian Yelich left the game with tightness in one of his hamstrings. Murphy said to expect bad news on when Yelich will be back again.
