(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) INDIANAPOLIS – The Green Bay women’s basketball team shot 50-percent from beyond the arc en route to a 74-47 win against the IU Indianapolis Jaguars on the road Wednesday night.
The Phoenix (8-3, 3-0) had four players score in double figures, led by Meghan Schultz, who had 13 points and six rebounds. Ellie Buzzelle added 12 points from the bench, and both Gracie Grzesk and Kamy Peppler helped out with 11 points each.
The Green Bay offense made it rain from downtown, knocking down eight threes on 16 attempts.
Green Bay’s defense held IU Indianapolis to only 28.6-percent shooting from the field, including 18.5-percent from beyond the arc.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After jumping out to a 14-11 advantage, Green Bay went on a 7-0 run with 2:06 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Buzzelle, to increase its lead to 21-11. The Phoenix then maintained that lead and entered the quarter break with a 23-13 advantage. Green Bay capitalized on six IU Indianapolis turnovers in the period, turning them into 10 points on the other end of the floor.
The Phoenix used the second period to increase their lead and entered halftime with a 41-29 edge.
After intermission, Green Bay added to its advantage slightly and owned a 54-40 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Green Bay played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 13 points in the paint.
Green Bay kept widening that lead, expanding it to 62-45 before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Schultz’s jumper, to grow the lead to 69-45 with 3:28 to go in the contest. The Phoenix kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 74-47 win. Green Bay fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down three of six from deep.
