GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Community members are encouraged to support a Brown County book drive that has been making a difference in the lives of children in need for nearly four decades.
On Wednesday, the Friends of the Brown County Library launched the 37th annual Give-A-Kid-A-Book campaign.
This program collects new, unwrapped books that are given as gifts to thousands of local children — babies through age 18 — and families in need. Individuals, businesses, churches, schools, clubs, organizations and families are invited to donate.
The books will be distributed in December in partnership with the Green Bay Salvation Army Holiday Assistance program.
Bre LaFleur, wife of Green Bay Packers head coach, Matt LaFleur, is in her third year serving as an honorary literacy ambassador for the Give-A-Kid-A-Book campaign. She said reading has always been an important part of her two sons’ lives.
“It has opened up ideas, possibilities and new worlds for them, by just simply picking up a book and reading,” said LaFleur. “What I have found that reading has done for my kids has not only improved their vocabulary and writing skills, but it has improved their confidence so much.”
And I think with this campaign, we have the opportunity to do the same thing for the families and children in Brown County. To let kids find out who they are, find their creativity and also understand others.
