(UW ATHLETICS) BLOOMINGTON, IND – The Wisconsin men’s soccer team (5-7-0, 2-5-0 Big Ten) fell to the No. 14-ranked Indiana Hoosiers (11-3-1, 4-3-0 Big Ten), 4-1, on Tuesday night. The Badgers started strong in Bloomington, but were unable to keep the Hoosiers off the board as the match went on.
How It Happened:
The match started slow, but Wisconsin was able to create some opportunities early. The Badgers came close to scoring on a Will Smith throw-in and a Matthew Zachemski free kick, but Indiana’s keeper Michel stood strong between the posts.
The Hoosiers got on the scoreboard in the 22nd minute with a goal from Alex Barger, who powered in a corner kick rebound. Palmer Ault and Josh Maher were credited with assists.
Wisconsin maintained composure for the rest of the half, highlighted by a Luke Shrivers punch-save in the 25th minute.
While the halftime score was 1-0, Indiana came out of the break hot, scoring twice in the first five minutes of the second frame. Both goals came off Ault free kicks from right outside the box. Breckin Minzey scored the first with a header and Josh Maher tapped in the second to make the score 3-0.
Indiana added a fourth goal from Collins Oduro in the 64th minute, with an assist from Colton Swan. The Badgers broke the shutout with a goal from senior Sam Green in the 84th minute. Julian Banks and Markie Hrvojevic earned assists on the goal.
