APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Larsen man was arrested following a crash that killed one person and seriously injured another in Appleton.
Police say they were called to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of N. Richmond Street and the off-ramp from northbound Interstate 41 in the early morning hours of Saturday.
One of the vehicles was on fire when officers arrived. The driver and passenger had been able to get out, suffering minor injuries. Firefighters quickly put the fire out.
In the second vehicle, the driver and front-seat passenger were both unconscious. They had suffered serious injuries. Firefighters had to pull the driver out of the vehicle. Both were taken to the hospital, where the driver later died.
Investigators determined the driver of the first vehicle was driving drunk. He was traveling at more than 100 mph and did not stop at a stop sign, police say.
That driver, 18-year-old Carter Green, was arrested on potential charges of first-degree reckless homicide and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, causing injury.
No formal charges have been filed against Green. The Outagamie County District Attorney’s Office says Green is expected in court Wednesday.
