(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) – On Friday night, the Green Bay volleyball team swept the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons (29-27, 25-14, 25-23) at the Gates Sports Center. The Phoenix used strong offensive execution and gritty defense to secure their third Horizon League victory.
For Green Bay, Diane Pichelman led the offense with 18 kills, hitting an efficient .607. Gillian Koning added 11 kills, while Kayla Birmingham chipped in a career-high 17 kills and 12 digs. Emma Johnson led the team with 46 assists, running a balanced offense.
For Purdue Fort Wayne, Riley Rosneck led all Mastodons with 11 kills, followed by Mya Plemons and Trinity Rye with 8. Haiden Means recorded 26 assists, while Becky Barrett led with 15 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | Green Bay and Purdue Fort Wayne battled back and forth through the entire set. The Phoenix was able to pull ahead when it mattered and ended the set 29-27.
SET 2 | Green Bay dominated the second set, hitting .464 — their best of the match. Behind strong swings from Birmingham, Koning and Pichelman, the Phoenix cruised to a 25-14 win.
SET 3 | Purdue Fort Wayne responded in the third set forcing the Phoenix to find a way to close out the match. After trailing for a period of the set, the Phoenix rose to challenge and were able to close out the match 25-23 ending the match with an Olivia Neuman block.
