(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) – The Marquette women’s volleyball team was swept 3-0 by No. 12 Minnesota on. The Golden Eagles were led by Natalie Ring with 18 kills followed by Hattie Bray with 12. Emma Parks and Elena Radeff also contributed seven kills apiece. Isabela Haggard chipped in with 38 assists and 12 digs. This match marked the final match before heading into conference play.
Minnesota opened the scoring column with a 3-0 run until Natalie Ring put the Golden Eagles on the board with her first assist of the night. The teams were leveled at 5-5 until the Blue and Gold went on a 5-0 run to extend the lead to 9-5. The Golden Gophers added two to their total with a kill from Jordan Taylor and an attack error from freshman Emma Parks. MU used another 3-0 run to extend their lead 12-7. The Golden Eagles began to pull away with the help of dominant offense as they led 19-15 down the stretch. Minnesota started to show signs of a comeback as they went on a 3-0 run forcing an MU timeout. Neither team could pull away, but it was Minnesota that took the first 28-26.
The second started off with both teams exchanging points with MU trailing 9-8. A Golden Gopher attack error tied the game 12-12 and Park snagged the 13-12 lead for MU. It didn’t take long for Minnesota to find momentum as they regained the lead 20-16. Marquette attempted a comeback closing in at 24-21, but the Golden Gophers took the second 25-21.
Despite dropping the first two sets, MU remained composed in the third set. The Golden Eagles led by as many as four at 14-10. However, Minnesota quickly cut into Marquette’s lead to take a 22-17 lead. MU attempted a comeback but could not hold on against Minnesota falling 25-21.
