SHAWANO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Shawano school dedicated its new playground to the first millennial saint.
Sacred Heart Catholic School dedicated its $100,000 playground after recently canonized Saint Carlo Acutis in a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday.
After three years of working together with staff and volunteers to raise funds, the new playground was installed earlier this month.
Sacred Heart Catholic School is the first school or parish in the Diocese of Green Bay to have something officially named after this new saint, and one of the first few around the world to do so.
Carlo Acutis was an English-born Italian Catholic teenager who was canonized as a saint on Sept. 7, 2025 in Rome, and was known for his devotion to the Eucharist and his use of digital media to promote Catholic devotion. He is known as ‘God’s Influencer’ and is the first millennial saint. He is a saint who is relatable to the younger generation.
A dedication plaque is planned to be placed near the playground soon.
