DAIRY NEWS – The 2025 Calf Care Connection workshops, presented by Professional Dairy Producers® (PDP), will focus on understanding how stress impacts dairy calves and how to minimize stressful experiences. Attendees will experience a combination of hands-on breakout sessions and classroom learning during the two repeating sessions scheduled for Wed., Oct. 22, at Arlington Ag Research Station Public Events Building in Arlington, Wis., and Thu., Oct. 23, at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay, Wis. Each session runs from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. All program sessions will be presented in English with simultaneous Spanish translation.
“Stressors and challenges in a calf’s early life can have short-term impacts on their health and growth – and some of those experiences will have negative effects throughout their entire life,” said Laura Raatz, calf care manager at Wagner Farms in Oconto Falls, Wis., and PDP board member. “This year’s Calf Care Connection is designed to help dairy team members identify potential stressors and take proactive steps to minimize those situations so they can have more resilient calves from day one.”
Calf care managers, calf feeders and other dairy team members will benefit from the focused sessions and hands-on experiences. Sessions will be presented by leading calf-care experts including Dr. Catie Cramer, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Animal Sciences, Colorado State University; Dr. Ryan Breuer, DVM, DACVIM, diagnostic case and outreach coordinator at Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory and clinical associate professor, UW-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine; and Dr. Franklyn Garry, DVM, coordinator integrated livestock management and professor, Colorado State University.
Calf Care Connection is accredited for up to 4.5 Dairy AdvanCE (DACE) continuing education credits, up to 6.0 ARPAS continuing education credits, and up to 4.5 UW-Madison WVDL credits.
