(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) MADISON -The Green Bay volleyball team got its first win of the season in dominant fashion Thursday afternoon, taking down the Chicago State Cougars in straight sets (25-14, 25-9, 25-10).
Katie Schulz finished with 14 kills on the day to lead the Phoenix attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .448. Diane Pichelman was also a lead attacker, finishing with nine kills on a .467 hitting percentage. Emma Johnson provided the assists, racking up 24 in the match. The Phoenix was led defensively by Emma Best, who finished with 13 kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | The Phoenix won the first point and never trailed to win the first set 25-14. Green Bay led by as many as 12 points at 24-12 before finishing off the set, collecting 15 kills in the process. Green Bay also supplemented its offense with four aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | Green Bay took set two 25-9, to swiftly jump to a 2-0 lead. The Phoenix scored first and never trailed in the set to secure the victory. The Phoenix hit .423 over the course of the set.
SET 3 | Green Bay took set three to win in straight sets. The Phoenix led from the opening point on to secure a 25-10 victory. Green Bay ended on a high note, claiming its biggest lead, 15 points, to close out the set. The Green Bay offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.
