(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) EVANSVILLE, IND. – The Green Bay men’s soccer team got its first win of the 2025 season on Labor Day, 1-0 over the USI Screaming Eagles. Dubem Obilo’s first goal of his Phoenix career was the difference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams had ample opportunities in the first half, each attempting five shots in the opening 45 minutes. Green Bay took advantage of those opportunities, opening the scoring with a 38th-minute goal off a corner kick. Tony Manciu hit an in-swinging ball off of a corner kick to the back post that Obilo got on the end of, and the Phoenix took a 1-0 lead.
The Phoenix was able to hold off USI in the second half to secure the 1-0 victory. The Screaming Eagles had five more shots in the frame but failed to find the equalizer.
GAME NOTES
- Drew Swancutt got the start in goal for GB, racking up five saves.
- Both teams finished the night with 10 shots.
- Southern Indiana had five shots on goal to Green Bay’s three.
- Six yellow cards were given out on the night.
COMING UP
Green Bay will continue the road trip on Saturday when they travel to Macomb, Ill., to take on Western Illinois. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. CT.
