(LEARFIELD) – The Wisconsin Badgers football team started the 2025 campaign with a 17-0 win over the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks, but there may be bad news when it comes to their starting quarterback.
Transfer quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. left the game early in the second quarter after appearing to injure his leg on a handoff.
Edwards was making his Wisconsin debut after throwing for 2,881 yards and 15 touchdowns for Maryland last season.
Badgers coach Luke Fickell said losing Edwards to injury was not part of the plan.
Backup quarterback Danny O’Neil threw for 120 yards and a touchdown.
O’Neil said that it was shocking to see Edwards get hurt.
Dillon Jones added 73 yards on the ground on 14 carries.
The Badgers defense held Miami to only 117 yards and added three sacks.
Fickell said that the Badgers defense did its job.
Up next for the Badgers is Middle Tennessee St, who they’ll host September 6th.
