(WTAQ-WLUK) — The future of the Hobart-Lawrence Police Department is secure through 2035.
On Wednesday, the village of Hobart and the town of Lawrence announced they approved a new 10-year agreement for joint police services.
Officials call the deal “a continued display of regional cooperation and a shared commitment to public safety.”
HLPD was originally established in 2001 as a cooperative department in an effort to provide high-quality policing services to both communities while also maximizing efficiency and minimizing taxpayer costs.
“This agreement is a powerful statement about what’s possible when communities come together with a shared vision,” said Chief of Police Michael Renkas.
Hobart and Lawrence have shown that their commitment to public safety is long-term, strategic, and focused on excellence. Our department is honored by that trust, and we are excited to build on this foundation for the next decade.
Finalizing this deal will allow HLPD to proactively plan for the future and guarantee both communities remain well-protected through necessary staffing levels, modern equipment and continued officer training and development.
