(WNFL) – The Milwaukee Brewers dropped the series opener 5-1 to the Miami Marlins Friday afternoon at American Family Field in Milwaukee.
Miami broke a 1-1 tie with 4 runs in the seventh inning off Aaron Ashby and Nick Mears.
Otto Lopez doubled in the seventh to score Xavier Edwards, Agustin Ramirez and Kyle Stowers with Lopez going to third on a fielding error by Blake Perkins. Liam Hicks then hit a sacrifice fly to score Lopez and make it 5-1 Miami.
The Brewers got their only run in the fourth inning on Jackson Chourio’s 17th home run of the season.
Freddy Peralta started and went 5 innings for the Brewers, giving up 1 run on 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 9.
Ashby took the loss to fall to 1-1.
Cal Quantrill pitched 5 innings for Miami. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits and struck out 5.
Josh Simpson got the win for Miami.
- Jackson Chourio (1-for-4, 1hr, 1rbi, 1r) extended his career-long hitting streak to 18 games with a solo homer in the 4th inning…..in that span, which dates back to 7/2 at New York-NL [Game 2], he is batting .380/.408/.606 (27-for-71) with 4 doubles, 4 HR and 16 RBI…..Chourio’s hitting streak is the longest in the National League this season…..the home run was Chourio’s 17th of the season and his first since 7/13 vs. Washington.
- Christian Yelich (0-for-3, 1bb) extended his on-base streak to 30 games with a walk in the ninth inning…..since his streak began on 6/15 vs. St. Louis, he is batting .316/.375/.521 (37-for-117) with 6 doubles, 6 HR and 24 RBI…..the 30-game streak is tied for the longest of Yelich’s career (also 30g from 8/11-9/15, 2018).
- Freddy Peralta (5ip, 5h, 1r, 1er, 2bb, 9k) snapped a streak of 7 straight wins after receiving a no decision in the game….the righthander recorded 9 punchouts in the contest, tying his season high (also 9k on 6/3 at Cincinnati)…..it was Peralta’s most strikeouts at American Family Field since notching 9 strikeouts on 9/18/24 vs. Philadelphia…..in 11 starts in Milwaukee this season, Peralta has a 1.55 ERA (63.2ip, 11er) with 71 strikeouts and a 0.96 WHIP.
- The second game of the series is Saturday night with a 5:35 pre-game and 6:10 first pitch on 1360 and 97.5 WTAQ. The pitching matchup features Jose Quintana going for the Brewers and Janson Junk pitching for Miami.
