(MILWAUKEE BREWERS) MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers will honor and induct John “Ax Man” Axford into the Milwaukee Brewers Wall of Honor on Saturday, August 23. His contributions will be recognized on-field with a video and ceremonial first pitch that evening when the Crew takes on the San Francisco Giants at 6:10 p.m.
Axford spent parts of six seasons over two different stints with the Brewers (2009-13, 2021) and ranks third in franchise history in saves (106). He holds franchise single-season records in saves (46) and consecutive saves (43) both set during an impressive 2011 campaign in which he posted a 1.95 ERA with 86 strikeouts in 74 relief appearances. Axford recorded 49 consecutive saves between the 2011 and 2012 seasons, which is a franchise record and the sixth-longest run in Major League history.
The Brewers Wall of Honor is a distinction awarded to players, coaches and executives who meet a set of criteria based on service to the organization and career accomplishments. Axford will join the permanent exhibit with a bronze plaque affixed to the exterior of the ballpark commemorating his contribution to the franchise.
The Brewers and Milwaukee Braves Walls of Honor are permanent displays outside of American Family Field on the north side of the ballpark adjacent to the left-field entrance. Honorees have a plaque with their photo accompanied by a synopsis of their career.
