(WNFL) – The Denmark Vikings softball team advanced to the WIAA Division 2 state softball tournament title game with a 3-2 win over Lakeland at Madison’s Goodman Diamond on Friday.
The Vikings (24-7) will face 25-5 Jefferson at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon for the title.
Tied at 2 after four innings, Denmark scored the winning run in the fifth on a bunt double by Vanny Umentum and a run-scoring single to left by Audrey Baugnet.
Maggie Frank got the win for Denmark with 3 2/3 innings of relief pitching. Frank allowed 2 hits while strking out 3 in relief of starting pitcher Shaelyn Kraschnewski.
Saylor Timmerman took the loss for Lakeland, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits while striking out 12.
