(WNFL) – The Kaukauna Ghosts have advanced to the semi-finals of the WIAA Division 1 girls state softball tournament with a 9-1 win over Sun Prairie East.
Karly Meredith pitched a 1-hitter for Kaukauna, allowing 1 unearned run on 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 9. ‘
Kaukauna took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a triple by Meredith that scored Paige Bodenheimer. Meredith then scored on a single to left Jozy Ebben.
Kaukauna broke the game open in the fifth inning when they scored 7 runs. Madison Deering had a run-scoring single. Raivyn Rabideau singled in 2 runs. Meredith capped off the scoring with a grand slam.
Kaukauna finished with 14 hits including 2 by Meredith, Taylor Federwitz, Ebben, Rabideau and Chloe Herzfeldt.
Kaukauna will face Hamilton, a 3-0 winner over Oregon, in the semifinals Thursday at about 7 p.m.
In the other two quarterfinal games, DC Everest defeated Watertown 1-0 and Kenosha Bradford beat Cedarburg 10-0.
DC Everest and Kenosha Bradford will meet in a Division 1 semifinal game Friday morning.
