APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Appleton is considering creating “permanent and visible tribute to veterans” at Memorial Park.
The tribute could involve the following
- Renaming Memorial Park to “Veteran’s Memorial Park”
- Certain memorials could be relocated to “Veteran’s Memorial Park”
- Development of memorials for recent conflicts
- Creation of a pavilion or other structure near Memorial Park’s Scheig Center
“It gives credence to that space and allows a place for veterans to gather in groups, and to have events,” said Alex Schultz, District 9 Alderperson in Appleton.
The Appleton Parks & Recreation committee approved the resolution, which lacks details on the creation of this space. The city council will vote on it on it at a later date. Appleton Mayor Jake Woodford is in support of the change, according to the committee.
