(WTAQ-WLUK) — A critical need for blood and platelets has the Community Blood Center urging donations.
Officials say they are seeing an especially urgent shortage of Type O blood, but eligible donors of all blood types are encouraged to book an appointment as soon as possible.
“Blood cannot be made or manufactured. Patients rely on volunteer donors to get through surgeries, cancer treatments, labor and delivery complications, life-threatening emergencies and more,” said Dr. Todd Straus, vice president of medical services and chief medical officer. “Save someone’s life this summer by scheduling a donation today.”
Statistics show someone in the United States needs blood every two seconds. According to the CBC, the summer months are particularly challenging for maintaining the blood supply, as families’ routines change and vacations and scheduled activities are more prevalent.
However, the need for blood never takes a summer break. Donors are vital in ensuring a reliable blood supply year-round.
You can donate at any CBC Donor Center or mobile blood drive. CBC has donor centers in Appleton, Oshkosh, Little Chute and Green Bay and hosts more than 100 blood drives every month.
