BELLEVUE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Authorities say a lithium battery charging failure sparked a fire at a commercial structure in Bellevue, causing $125,000 in damage.
At 8:53 a.m. Tuesday, the Green Bay Metro Fire Department was dispatched to the 1700 block of Industrial Drive for a report of smoke and flames showing at a building in Bellevue.
When crews arrived, they discovered heavy smoke and flames were coming from a vehicle inside the structure. A rapid search determined no one was inside.
The fire had spread into the building’s attic space, which was difficult for crews to access due to steel sheeting that covered the entire ceiling.
A total of 31 firefighters manning six engines, one ladder truck and two ambulances responded to the scene, along with three command officers and three fire investigators. The blaze was declared under control at 9:09 a.m.
Damage to the structure and its contents is initially estimated to be $125,000. Officials say the cause of the fire is a lithium battery charging failure.
