(ST. NORBERT COMMUNICATIONS) DE PERE – St. Norbert College ended the 2025 season with a split against Edgewood College on senior day, falling 14-4 in the first game and emerging with a late 4-2 win in the second game in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Van Alstine Field.
The Green Knights (16-22, 10-14 NACC) took an early lead but were overpowered in the opener but scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to break a 2-2 tie in the second game to win the final game of the season.
A Dawson Schmidt (pictured) home run in the first inning made it 2-0 to the Green Knights, but the lead evaporated quickly thanks to seven consecutive runs from the Eagles, making it 7-2 in the top of the third. A RBI double from Matt Perry scored Schmidt to make it 7-3 in the bottom of the inning before a Edgewood grand slam in the fourth put the game out of reach. St. Norbert added one more run off a Schmidt single that scored A.J. Kisting before the game ended after seven innings due to the run rule.
Schmidt and Jake Lucas each had three hits, with Schmidt finishing with three RBIs. Trevor Reinhardt took the loss, pitching 3 1/3 innings and striking out two.
Following three scoreless innings, St. Norbert took the lead in the fourth when Schmidt scored on a ground out from Perry. Edgewood tied the affair in the fifth, while a Patrick Daniels RBI single scored Lucas in the sixth to make it 2-2.
It was a dramatic end to the game, as the Green Knights snatched a late victory with two runs in the eighth. A sacrifice fly from Perry scored the winning run from Reinhardt, while Schmidt added an insurance run off a wild pitch to end the season on a high note.
Schmidt had three hits for the second time in the afternoon, while Perry finished with two RBIs. Senior Miles Friedman won his first game of the season in his final appearance, pitching one inning and allowing one hit and run with a strikeout. Senior Kylo Barker finished up his St. Norbert career with his first save of the season, pitching one inning and allowing one hit with two strikeouts.
