(WNFL) – The Kansas City Royals scored 4 runs in the first 2 innings off of Brewers pitcher Elvin Rodriguez and went on to spoil Milwaukee’s home opener 11-1 on Monday at American Family Field in Milwaukee.
The game remained within reach of the Brewers who trailed 4-0 through 6 innings until the seventh.
That’s when Kansas City scored 6 runs on a home run by Salvador Perez, a bases-loaded walk, a 2-run single by Jonathan India, a run-scoring single by Bobby Witt, Jr. and a throwing-error by Rhys Hoskins.
Four of the runs were charged to Elvis Peguero and 2 were charged to Grant Anderson. The Royals would add 1 more run off of Anderson in the ninth inning.
The Brewers scored their lone run in the seventh inning on a double by Jackson Chourio that scored Isaac Collins.
Brewers designated hitter Christian Yelich said that it’s just 4 games but the team needs to do better.
Yelich said they need to start putting up good at-bats.
He said that there is some pressure on the offense.
Brice Turang talked about what it will take to get the offense rolling.
Milwaukee and Kansas City will meet in the second game of the series Tuesday night.
Michael Lorenzen will start for the Kansas City Royals.
The Brewers have named Chad Patrick their starting pitcher.
