(247NEWSSOURCE) – And so it begins.
One of the most exciting and hopeful times of the NFL offseason is finally here.
The free agency negotiation period begins at noon-Eastern today.
Teams are allowed to start contract talks with players and their agents during the two-day window.
The new league year and official signing period takes place on Wednesday.
But for all the excitement and social media chatter, 3 players who several suggested should be acquired by the Green Bay Packers won’t be headed to Green Bay.
Davante Adams heads west: Former Packers wide receiver Davante Adams who was released by the New York Jets is headed to the west coast. He signed a 2-year deal with the Los Angeles Rams, his third team since the start of last season.
The New York Jets released Adams on March 4th, allowing him to negotiate with a new team prior to the start of free agency. The 32-year-old joins a Rams offense that is set to move on from longtime wideout Cooper Kupp this offseason. Adams has 957 receptions for 11,844 yards and 103 touchdowns across 11 NFL seasons.
Metcalf to Steelers: The Steelers have found their Number-1 receiver.
ESPN reports that the team acquired DK Metcalf from the Seahawks on Sunday.
Seattle receives a second-round pick in exchange along with flipping sixth-and-seventh rounders in next month’s draft.
Pittsburgh immediately signed the vertical threat to a five-year, 150-million dollar contract following the trade.
Metcalf requested to be moved last week and was entering the final year of a three-year, 72-million dollar extension he inked back in 2022.
The two-time Pro Bowler had 66 catches last season for nearly one-thousand yards to go with five touchdowns.
Myles Garrett stays in Cleveland: A star pass rusher in the NFL is reversing course on his trade request.
ESPN reports that Myles Garrett agreed to a record-breaking, four-year extension with the Browns on Sunday.
The deal includes more than 123-million dollars in guaranteed money, making Garrett the highest paid non-quarterback in the league just days after Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby broke the record with more than 106-million guaranteed.
The 29-year-old asked Cleveland to trade him early last month and reiterated his desire to play for a contender.
The Browns went 3-and-14 last season and finished with the second-overall pick in next month’s draft.
Garrett was taken by Cleveland with the Number-1 pick in the 2017 draft and only trails Steelers defensive end TJ Watt for most sacks since then with more than 102.
Aaron Rodgers to the Seahawks? The Athletic reports the team is expected to engage in conversations with legendary NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers about their QB opening.
Seattle reportedly traded QB Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders last Friday.
