(WNFL) – The Bay Area Ice Bears have advanced to the WIAA girls state hockey championship game.
The Ice Bears defeated the Sun Prairie West C0-op 4-0 Thursday afternoon and will face the DC Everest Co-op which defeated the Eau Claire North Co-op 4-3 in overtime.
The championship will get underway at the Bob Suter Legacy20 Arena in Middleton at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The Ice Bears who outshot the Sun Prairie 37-9 took a 2-0 lead in the first period.
Aisling Buchan put the Ice Bears up 1-0 on a powerplay with Lily Lyons and Elizabeth Zunker getting assists.
Bay Area then put the game away with 2 more goals in third period with Lyons and Faye Brunke scoring. Buchan, Jlianne Bradford and Emily Bill got assists.
Reese Spiering had 9 saves for Bay Area.
Sofia Marinelli had 33 saves for Sun Prairie West Co-op.
Boys tournament
The Notre Dame Tritons will try to advance to Saturday’s boys Division 1 state championship when they play this afternoon.
The third-seeded Tritons will take on second-seeded Wausau West at 2 p.m. this afternoon.
The winner will face Edgewood Sacred Heart or Brookfield East Co-op for the Division 1 title Saturday at 7 .
