(WIAA) WAUKESHA – Middleton won the Division 1 team championship, and three event records were set at the 101st State Boys Swimming & Diving Championships at the Waukesha South High School Natatorium Saturday.
The Cardinals won their third straight State team title and their fourth overall by compiling 273 points. They won eight of the 12 events in the meet. Verona was second for the with 175 points, and Brookfield Central/East was third with 151.5 points.
Middleton set a new state record in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:30.60, beating the previous state record of 1:30.61 which they also held.
Middleton broke Sun Prairie’s record in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:21.93. Sun Prairie’s record time was 1:22.69.
Middleton’s Sam Wolf set a new record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 53:07, breaking the 2023 record set by Abram Mueller of Madison West (:53.20).
Top area finishers in Division 1 were Drew Gaerthofner of Neenah, second in the 50-yard freestyle and second in the 100-yard breaststroke and Neenah 200-yard freestyle relay team, fifth.
Division 2
McFarland won the Division 2 team title, and four records fell at the 2025 Boys Swimming & Diving Championships at the Waukesha South High School Natatorium Friday.
The Spartans won their second straight team title and the eighth in the program’s history. They earned the crown by compiling 283 points. McFarland won eight of the meet’s 12 events, including five individual events and three relays. Rhinelander was runner-up with 235 points, and Whitefish Bay was third with 223 points.
The three TeBeest brothers led the Spartans to the team title with four gold medals apiece. They were instrumental in each of the team’s eight titles.
In Division 2,, area top finishers included the Ashwaubenon 200-yard medley relay team finished fifth, Ashwaubenon’s Anthony Hendrickson took fifth in the 200-yard indvidual medley and fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke and Ashwaubenon’s Tommy McNicoll took fifth in the 100-yard freestyle.
Ashwaubenon finished fifth in the team standings with 160 points.
