(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) GREEN BAY – Sunday afternoon’s game between the Green Bay men’s basketball team and the Youngstown State Penguins came down to the wire, with the Penguins edging out the Phoenix, 73-69.
The Phoenix (2-18, 0-9) had four players score in double figures, led by Yonatan Levy, who had a career-high 18 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Ryan Wade tacked on a season-high 14 points off the bench and Jeremiah Johnson chipped in as well with 12 points and seven rebounds. Preston Ruedinger also finished with 10 points and four assists.
Cris Carroll led the way for the Penguins, putting up 24 points and eight rebounds. Nico Galette had a double-double, 17 points and 10 rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling behind 18-17, Green Bay went on a 7-0 run with 7:22 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Ryan Wade, to take a 24-18 lead. YSU cut into that lead before the half, as Green Bay went into the locker room up 31-29.
The Green & White started the second half hot, going on an 8-1 run in the first three minutes of the second half to take a 39-30 lead. The Penguins responded and cut the lead to three with a 6-0 run of their own immediately after. However, the Phoenix would once again build that lead after getting to the free throw line seven times in a two-minute stretch. After a pair of made free throws from Marcus Hall with 9:36 to go, the Phoenix led by a score of 59-48. That 11-point lead didn’t last long, as a 10-2 Penguin run brought the game back to within three. From there, the two teams traded baskets down the stretch and YSU came out the victor, 73-69.
