(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women’s volleyball team has advanced to the regional semifinals of the NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship for the third time and will face top-seeded No. 2 Penn State on Friday, Dec. 13 at roughly 2:30 p.m. Central time at Rec Hall in University Park, Pennsylvania.
The match follows Friday’s first semifinal between No. 6 Creighton and No. 13 Texas and begins 30 minutes following the conclusion of that contest on ESPN2.
The fifth-seeded Golden Eagles advanced to the regional semifinals by defeating No. 17 Utah in Salt Lake City on Friday evening in five sets. Outside hitter Aubrey Hamilton led the way with 20 kills, 14 digs, two blocks and a pair of service aces, while Natalie Ring added 16 kills.
The victory is the 400th win in the NCAA Division I head coaching career of Ryan Theis and marked the third time overall that MU has advanced to the NCAA regional semifinals. It is MU’s 11th win all-time in NCAA tournament action and its first win against a seeded host (MU’s two other Round of 16 appearances came after hosting First & Second Round matches at the Al McGuire Center).
