OUTAGAMIE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Dirty diapers are not recyclable.
That’s the message officials are hoping to instill in Northeast Wisconsin residents.
“At the Tri-County Recycling facility, we face a serious problem,” Outagamie County Recycling and Solid Waste wrote in a Facebook post Friday. “People mistakenly placing dirty diapers in their recycling bins.”
The post included an image, showing what officials say is more than 50 dirty diapers pulled off the facility’s paper line in less than five minutes.
Not only does this contaminate the paper recycling process, but it also affects every piece of material those diapers come into contact with.
Tri-County Recycling serves Brown, Outagamie and Winnebago counties.
Officials are reminding all parents and guardians, as well as child care providers and in-home health workers, that dirty diapers should always go in the garbage and never the recycling.
