It took until Wednesday night for the Milwaukee Brewers to solve the starting pitching of the Chicago Cubs and they did it against their best pitcher in a 10-6 romp at American Family Field. Japanese rookie Shota Imanaga brought a 5-0 record with a 0.84 earned run average into the ballgame but Christian Yelich ripped a 441 foot, two run homer in the first inning off the Chicago ace. Ian Happ hit a solo shot off Brewer starter Bryse Wilson but Milwaukee broke the game open with a five run third. Gary Sanchez lined a two run double into the left field corner and then Blake Perkins launched his two run blast to build a 7-1 lead. Imanaga was pulled after four and a third innings, giving up 7 runs on 8 hits. Two runs was the most he had allowed in his prior starts this season. Wilson meanwhile got through four, allowing three runs on six hits. Jared Koening picked up the win in relief working two scoreless frames, boosting his record to 5-1. The Cubs got within striking distance but Milwaukee put the game away with three more runs in the 7th, Willy Adames belted a two run shot. Along with his homer, Perkins robbed Christopher Morel of a home run pulling the ball back at the center field wall, one of three outstanding catches in the outfield. The Brewers are 31-23 and will try to get 10 games over .500 for the fourth time this year. The Cubs sink back to .500 at 27-27 and are now 4 and a half games behind the Crew in the NL Central race. The four game series wraps up Thursday afternoon with Colin Rea facing Jamison Taillon. Pre-game coverage begins at 11:35 AM with a 12:10 PM first pitch on WNFL.
