The longest road trip of the year is off to a rough start for the Milwaukee Brewers. After dropping two out of three in Houston, Milwaukee lost the opener of a three game series to the Marlins in Miami 3-2 in 10 innings Monday night. The Crew was thrown a curve early when starter Joe Ross had to leave the game after the first inning with low back tightness. Manager Pat Murphy burned through 7 relievers the rest of the night. Miami starter Ryan Weathers meanwhile, took a no hitter into the fifth. Andrew Monasterio broke it up with a two out, solo home run to give the Brewers the lead. In the sixth, Christian Yelich pulled off a surprise, stealing home, the first Brewer to do that since Scott Posednik back in 2003. The Marlins finally broke through with a run in the 7th and they were able to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth when Otto Lopez blopped a two out single to right that fell in front of Jackson Chourio to send the game to extras. Milwaukee had runners on second and third with only one out but couldn’t get the run in. Miami got a bases loaded, walk off single from Josh Bell in the bottom of the 10th off Mitch White for the win. The Brewers managed only four hits in the loss, dropping to 27-20 but they still have a game and a half lead on the idle Chicago Cubs in the NL Central race. Rookie Robert Gasser will look to go 3-0 as he faces Trevor Rogers in game two of the series on Tuesday night. Pre-game coverage begins at 5:05 PM with a 5:40 PM first pitch on WTAQ.
