OUTAGAMIE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Two and a half years of road construction are finally coming to an end in Hortonville.
A ceremony on Friday morning celebrated the completion of the Highway 15 bypass around Hortonville.
Crews had been working since May 2021 to rebuild and expand 11 miles of the highway between Highway 45 in New London and Lily of the Valley Drive in Greenville. The expansion includes roundabouts on either side of Hortonville where the bypass meets the existing Highway 15.
People in Outagamie County have been waiting decades for improvements to the highway. Safety concerns have been long-standing following a series of crashes.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says some construction will continue in 2024 to place polymer overlays on the bridges along the route and to built a salt shed in the town of Hortonia.
