GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A local artist is launching a new annual community mural tradition centered around the Green Bay Packers.
Green Bay muralist Zane Statz has been painting the “Packers Fence” across from Lambeau Field every season since 2014.
But this year, in collaboration with sponsor BayCare Clinic, Statz is expanding the project — transforming the fence along Lombardi Avenue titled “A Tradition of Excellence” into a new community-centered Packers art project.
Although Statz will paint approximately half of the 70-foot-long, six-foot high mural, fans are invited to join in on the fun as well by assisting to paint the second half.
Volunteers of all ages are welcome to participate between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Sept. 23. Sign-up is not required.
“The design, we’re not going to unveil until the day, but it’s definitely focusing on the past great quarterbacks and then [Jordan] Love,” said Statz. “It’s nothing corny, so don’t worry. But it’s kind of looking at the new era of the Packers, and where we’re going and what we see for the future.”
Along with covering the costs of all fence painting supplies, BayCare Clinic is also donating $2,000 to NEW Community Shelter, a non-profit organization that provides shelter and supportive services to people experiencing homelessness in Brown County.
Michael Schmidt, director of marketing and business development at BayCare Clinic, said in a news release he is thrilled by this unique collaboration.
“Our partnership to create a stunning public art piece celebrating the Green Bay Packers not only symbolizes our community’s unwavering passion for sports but also reflects our commitment to giving back. The fact that this endeavor will also contribute to raising funds for the NEW Community Shelter fills me with immense pride. Through this project, we are not only adding beauty and vibrancy to our city but also making a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need. It’s a testament to the power of art, sports, and community coming together for a greater purpose.”
