GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Wednesday is officially the first day of summer.
As we say goodbye to spring, meteorologist Roy Eckbert with the Green Bay National Weather service reflects on the season.
“This spring ended up close to average by the time we took out the very cold March and the warm May,” said Eckbert. “Over the 90-day period, it was pretty close to average.”
Precipitation levels during the spring were at 8.15 inches; with the average spring season seeing 8.31 inches. A major contributor to the precipitation this spring was the unexpected snowfalls in April and May.
With precipitation comes flooding; Eckbert says this season they likely sent out a record number of flooding alerts.
“I know one night in April 34 sites had river flood warnings in effect,” said Eckbert. “But despite all the flooding, it didn’t have a significant impact because it mostly flooded woodland areas.”
Flooding mostly occurred from the Wisconsin, Menominee, and Wolf rivers.
