Reports: Packers Deal Rodgers to Jets

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Green Bay Packers and New York Jets have agreed on trade compensation for Aaron Rodgers, according to multiple reports.

However, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said at a press conference Monday afternoon it isn’t finalized.

“Last five, six days we’ve been talking,” Gutekunst said in regards to the Jets. “It’s not finalized, but expect to get it done in the next couple of days.”

However, Gutekunst did talk about trading Rodgers.

“Aaron is obviously up there in age,” he said. “I think he’s got some really good football left in him. As we got through the offseason, this made sense having (Jordan Love) sit for another year would’ve really delayed (his development).”

The reported trade has the Packers trading Rodgers, the 15th pick in the first round and a fifth-round pick (170th overall) of the NFL Draft this week.

In return, the Jets send the 13th pick in the first round this week, in addition to a second-round pick (No. 42), a sixth-round pick (No. 207) and a conditional 2024 second-round pick that becomes a first round pick if Rodgers plays 65 percent of the plays.

“Moving forward with compensation in this year’s draft was important to us,” Gutekunst said.

Rodgers said in March he preferred a trade to the Jets after the Packers appeared willing to shop him. It took some time, but Monday it happened, which means without a doubt Love will be the Packers’ new starting quarterback this coming season.
