APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – An Appleton man was arrested following a more than five-hour-long standoff Monday morning.
Police say they were called to the 1100 block of N. Leminwah Street just after 3 a.m. for a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, they heard more gunshots and identified the home the shots were coming from.
As police were trying to get in touch with the people in the house, a man came out and fired a shot into the air from what police believe was a rifle. The man went back into the house.
At that point, people in the neighborhood were asked to shelter in place.
A SWAT team was called in and after negotiations, the man eventually came out and was arrested. He was identified as Torey D. Robinson, 37. Police said he lived at the house.
Police got other residents out of the house and searched the building. No significant injuries were reported.
Police say Robinson was likely the same person who approached officers earlier in the evening while they worked at a separate incident. Lt. Meghan Cash said the man in that case was asking strange questions about the officers’ uniforms and equipment.
So far, police are recommending Robinson be charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. Other charges may result as the investigation continues.
No formal charges have been filed yet.
A stretch of Wisconsin Avenue which was closed during the standoff reopened just before noon.
